Safe & Effective Microchips

Sometimes, a sturdy collar and ID tag are not enough to identify your pet if they become lost. Microchipping is a method of providing permanent identification for your four-legged friend that can’t get lost, stolen, or damaged.

At Crossroads Animal Clinic, we offer the HomeAgain microchip, a widely used product that increases your chances of safely recovering your lost pet.

According to the American Humane Association, millions of cats and dogs are found and brought to animal shelters each year.  Of the animals that come in without any ID tags or microchips, only 15 percent of dogs and 2 percent of cats are successfully reunited with their owners.

How does Microchipping Work?

A microchip is a safe, simple form of identification that can significantly increase the chance of a reunion between you and your pet. Each chip has a unique number that is registered to a pet.

A microchip is about the size and shape of a grain of rice. It is injected beneath the surface of your pet's skin between the shoulder blades in a process similar to a vaccination.

The procedure takes only a few minutes and can be completed during any visit to Crossroads Animal Clinic.

We will register your pet’s microchip in the national pet recovery database, and you will be required to finish the registration by adding your contact information and address–remember to always keep your information up to date.

HomeAgain Microchip

The HomeAgain microchip has a patented anti-migration feature that ensures the microchip will stay in place for easy scanning.

If your pet becomes lost and someone brings them to a veterinary office or shelter, the scanner will read the microchip’s unique ID registration code, and it will be used to identify your pet and retrieve your information. You can then be successfully reunited with your loved one.

We recommend microchips for both indoor and outdoor pets. We love happy endings to stories of lost pets, so please consider microchipping your pet.
